My name is Maria Corcoran.
I am a fully accredited, qualified counsellor/psychotherapist based in Portlaoise Holistic Centre. I have completed a BSc (Hons) in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am a member of the Irish Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (IACP) accreditation body, and I work in accordance with their code of ethics. I work mainly with person-centered therapy and reality therapy integrated with other modalities. I provide individual counselling and group counselling for clients 18+.
I have had an interesting path in life which has led me to become a counsellor/psychotherapist. My personal and professional experiences support my understanding that life’s path is different for everyone but how we navigate that path is central to finding true contentment and happiness.
I have a Diploma in Addiction studies and have previously worked within addiction services and services providing suicide interventions. I have a certificate in Loss and Bereavement and in Palliative Care counselling. I also have experience in trauma care and staff support (CISM). I am also currently completing a Level 9 Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
As your therapist, I am here to help you work through the reasons that lead you to attend counselling as well as anything that might present during our sessions together. I work in an integrative way with a person-centered approach, integrating different modalities and therapies as required to your needs. I work with people providing a confidential, supportive and non-judgmental environment. I am conscious of the courage it takes to start on this journey to pursue counselling support by providing a safe space for you to discuss those issues that are impacting you negatively and to help you find solutions.
